Students move in to Chaparral Village
UTSA on-campus residents produce high GPAs

(Sept. 6, 2006)--As UTSA prepares to break ground this fall on the new 680-bed, $35 million Laurel Village, UTSA housing officials are celebrating the academic performance of nearly half of the 1,000 residents in Chaparral Village at the 1604 Campus.

RSS FeedsLast fall, 48 percent of Chaparral Village residents earned a GPA of 3.0 or better. Seventy-eight of the residents carried 4.0 GPAs.
"I've worked in the student housing industry for 26 years and this is the highest percentage of grade point averages above 3.0 that I have ever witnessed," said John White, UTSA executive director of housing and residence life. "This supports our goal of enhancing the student academic experience by encouraging more students to take advantage of the on-campus living opportunities available at UTSA."
Chaparral Village, a two-year old complex, offers students apartment-style living in two or four bedroom suites. The units include cable, high-speed Internet and local telephone services with free long distance within the United States.
