Before her work at California State, she served as vice chancellor for administrative services at University of Alaska, associate director of administration at University of Southern California and director of budget and human resources management at California State University.
Parker earned a B.S. degree in biology at DePaul University and a master of public administration degree with an emphasis in public finance and administration at University of Alaska. She also earned certification as a purchasing manager and is a graduate of the Stanford Executive Leadership Institute.
"Janet Parker's education and experience will serve UTSA well," said Kennedy. "She has been most successful in advancing the mission of each organization where she has served, and we look forward to working with her to advance our institutional and business affairs visions."
Parker will be responsible for leadership, planning and management of the university's operating budget, development of UTSA legislative appropriation requests, the administrative computing system (Define) and the development and maintenance of an effective financial management information and reporting system.
Parker will replace Patti Cutler, assistant vice president for budget and financial planning, who will retire in January 2007. The new position title for Parker reflects the merging of the Office of Budget and Financial Planning and Office of Management Reporting and Analyses. Until her retirement, Cutler will work closely with Parker to help acclimate her to UTSA systems and procedures.
