Gubernatorial candidate Chris Bell to speak at UTSA

(Oct. 10, 2006)--The UTSA Graduate Political Science Association and UTSA College Democrats will host a speech by Texas gubernatorial candidate Chris Bell at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11 in the University Center Retama Auditorium (2.02.02) at the 1604 Campus.

The Democratic candidate will address the UTSA community on many of the issues discussed at the recent televised debate including education, immigration, ethics and toll roads.

Born in Abilene and raised in Dallas, Bell graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in journalism before earning a law degree from the South Texas College of Law. He served on the Houston City Council from 1997 to 2002, then made a successful run for Congress.

During his tenure in Washington, D.C., Bell founded and chaired the bipartisan Port Security Caucus to address homeland security needs at the nation's seaports. He also served as a senior whip on the Democratic leadership team. Bell currently lives in Houston.
