Walk for Women's kick-off
Walk for Women's Athletics kicks off fundraising
(Oct. 9, 2006)--Team captains for the UTSA Walk for Women's Athletics assembled Sept. 20 at the Omni Hotel to kick off a six-week fundraising campaign to support the UTSA Female Student-Athlete Scholarship fund.
Co-chair Linda Hardberger, first lady of San Antonio, encouraged the group to literally "take it one step at a time." Hardberger is serving a second year as co-chair with Harriett Romo, UTSA first lady and associate professor of sociology.

Now in its 19th year, the walk has raised more than $1 million to support growing tuition needs of more than 100 female student-athletes participating in nine sports.
Set for Saturday, Oct. 28, this year's walk will feature a health fair, fashion show and silent auction. Participants are asked to raise or donate a minimum of $25 and will receive an official walk T-shirt in addition to eligibility for door prizes and access to a complimentary brunch.
Participants raising more than $25 will be rewarded with UTSA tote bags, sweatshirts and H-E-B gift cards. Participants who raise $100 will be entered into $100 drawings for an Apple iPod, airline tickets and jewelry.
Traditionally, the Women's Walk receives tremendous support from employees and friends of the UTSA community. "Forming a team and attending the walk is always fun," said Women's Walk Director Laura Baker. "And, it allows you to directly impact the lives and futures of many talented young women."
