Navy commander to speak at UTSA Nov. 10

(Nov. 9, 2006)--The UTSA College of Engineering and the Navy Office of Community Outreach will present a lecture by Navy Adm. John B. Nathman, commander of the U.S. Fleet Forces Command, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10 in Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building Room 2.102 on the 1604 Campus.

Nathman will speak on "Naval and National Imperatives." The lecture is free and open to the public.

A four-star admiral, Nathman is a native of San Antonio, Texas, and a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. His naval career is highlighted by command of Strike Fighter Squadron 132, the U.S.S. LaSalle, the U.S.S. Nimitz, Carrier Group 7 and the Naval Air Forces. Nathman has flown more than 40 types of aircraft throughout his career including the F-4 Phantom, the F/A-18 Hornet and the F-14 Tomcat.

In his current assignment, Nathman is responsible for organizing, manning, training and equipping Navy forces; providing planning support to combatant commanders; deterring, detecting and defending against homeland maritime threats; and articulating fleet war fighting and readiness capabilities to the chief of naval operations.
