UTSA hosts exhibit by San Antonio artist Curt Slangal

(Nov. 9, 2006)--Through the end of the year, UTSA will present the art exhibit, "New Works by Slangal," featuring multimedia pieces by San Antonio artist Curt Slangal. The exhibit runs Nov. 9-Dec. 30 at the Downtown Campus Gallery, Durango Building Room 1.122. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. The exhibit and reception are free and open to all.

Curated by UTSA art specialist Arturo Almeida, the exhibition features modernistic works using the media of painting, silkscreen, sculpture and multimedia.
Slangal grew up on San Antonio's South Side and graduated from Texas State University with a bachelor's degree in art. He has dabbled in art since age 5, and at age 52 is trying to express truths in his work.
"A number of years back, I decided to immerse myself in creating art because I think visual messages are stronger than verbal messages," said Slangal. "I'm not political and I'm not a rebel, but my goal is to help people feel an emotional attachment to what's going on in the world today."
