UTSA, other Texas schools form security group

(Nov. 10, 2006)--A memorandum of understanding signed this week by The University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas A&M Engineering, the University of Texas at El Paso and Texas A&M International University formed the Texas Homeland Security Group (THSG) and created a proactive multi-institutional team to train, educate, respond and deliver products to address important issues in homeland and border security.

RSS FeedsAt UTSA, retired Lt. Gen. Lawson Magruder, executive director of the Institute for the Protection of American Communities (IPAC), will lead the effort.
The goal of THSG is to attract and apply research funding targeting important issues in homeland and border security. As a group, the four Texas universities will provide more integrated capabilities and expertise to solve security issues than any single university.
The partnership combines expertise in science and technology, basic and applied research, and social and behavioral science that can promote, develop and disseminate scientific, educational training and policy solutions to issues affecting the public and private sectors in Texas, the United States, Mexico and other areas.
