(Dec. 12, 2006)--Once again, UTSA is among the top 25 Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) programs in the state. Other University of Texas institutions joining UTSA in the top 25 are UT Tyler (35.42 percent), UT Dallas (30.49 percent ), UT El Paso (26.95 percent) and UT Brownsville (26.17 percent).
In 2006, more than $10.3 million, or 27.73 percent of total eligible UTSA purchases, were expended with HUB vendors, which are minority- and women-owned businesses certified by the state.

UTSA's HUB staff coordinating group meets quarterly to discuss HUB program activities. Staff coordinating group members for 2006-2007 are Pamela Bacon (chair), Tracy Picha, Mary Simon, Terri Vasquez, Charles Lampe, Mansour El-Kikhia, Orestes Hubbard, Cindy Colston, Rodolpho Sandoval, Wanda Guntz, Lacy Hampton and Yolanda Miller.
University staff members and departments that have promoted the HUB program were honored at a Nov. 20 ceremony. UTSA President Ricardo Romo, who provided remarks, congratulated the honorees for being advocates of the program.
The top 5 Texas agencies in HUB utilization for 2006 were Texas A&M International University ($3.3 million, 63.9 percent), Secretary of State ($4.7 million, 41.8 percent), University of North Texas System Administration ($4.4 million, 40.3 percent), Texas Department of Family and Protective Services ($12.7 million, 38.2 percent) and University of Houston-Clear Lake ($3.1 million, 38.1 percent).
