Nonprofit management program earns PR award

(Jan. 25, 2007)--The UTSA American Humanics program earned the Excellence in Public Relations Award at the American Humanics Management Institute, a four-day workshop for students pursuing careers in nonprofit management, in Washington, D.C., Jan. 3-6.
American Humanics recognized UTSA for its innovation in publicizing its American Humanics program, which trains future nonprofit professionals. UTSA's efforts included a reception for graduating seniors and a partnership with the Office of Career Services to host a nonprofit career fair.

"We are grateful to American Humanics for acknowledging our program's efforts," said Sandra Palomo-Gonzalez, senior program coordinator for the UTSA Center for Policy Studies. "Our events increased awareness of the nonprofit sector as a career choice, stressed American Humanics as a nationally recognized career training curriculum and partnered newly graduated nonprofit professionals with local human services agencies and nonprofit leaders."
A contingent of 18 UTSA students attended the annual conference to fulfill course requirements toward a minor in nonprofit management. The national institute included workshops, case studies and presentations from nonprofit professionals across the nation, as well as a nonprofit career fair and networking opportunities for future nonprofit professionals.
