The lecture is part of a reception hosted by the World Affairs Council of San Antonio and U.S. Global Investors. Two dozen propaganda posters from Mao Zedong's time as chairman will be on display to illustrate the Chinese leader's use of art as propaganda.
During his reign in China, Mao relied on bold and colorful posters to disseminate his political ideas and reinforce his cult of personality. Collected by Frank Holmes, CEO and chief investment officer of U.S. Global Investors, the posters are from a tumultuous period of the 1960s when a challenge to Mao's control moved China to the brink of civil war.
As part of the event, Holmes will discuss his frequent travels to China and opportunities arising from dramatic economic growth in the world's most populous country.
Tickets for the reception are $15, including drinks and hors d'oeuvres. For planning purposes, make reservations by contacting the World Affairs Council of San Antonio at (210) 308-9494 or ragan@wacofsa.org.
