(March 14, 2007)--UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures is welcoming visitors to the Back 40 outside exhibit area during Spring Break. Usually open only for group tours and special functions, there is fun in the Back 40 for the entire family and friends.

A different building and activity is featured each day with activities from pioneer days including schoolyard games at the one-room schoolhouse, black powder rifle demonstrations at the old fort, roping and making spurs, baking in a traditional "horno."

The Back 40 activities during Spring Break are part of regular admission. Other activities for the week will include making braid dolls and doing the laundry with an old washtub and washboard, baking in a traditional "horno" in an adobe house and "enlistment" and pictures with the buffalo soldiers at the old fort (Friday).

UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures is located at 801 S. Bowie St., San Antonio, Texas, 78205. Spring break activities are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. through Friday. Admission is $7 for adults; $4 for children (ages 3-12), seniors age 65 and older, and military with ID.

UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures is San Antonio's cultural experience museum. Established as the Texas State Exhibits Building for HemisFair in 1968 and later designated as a campus of The University of Texas at San Antonio, the museum has spent nearly 40 years telling the stories of Texas' diverse citizens and inviting guests to join in the celebration of Texas' multicultural heritage. Home to the Texas Folklife Festival, Asian Festival and six other cultural events, ITC seeks to entertain, inform and inspire those who aspire to a greater understanding of the influence of multiculturalism in the Lone Star State. The museum is closed Mondays.
