OIT creates UTSA software coordinator position

By Alex Morones
Technical Writer, Office of Information Technology

(March 23, 2007)--The UTSA Office of Information Technology (OIT) announces the appointment of Andy Trotti as UTSA software coordinator. In the newly created job, she will serve as the software point-of-contact for all UTSA departments and colleges.

In creating the software coordinator position, the goal is to reduce duplicate purchases, avoid compatibility issues between hardware and software, and to secure better discounts by purchasing multiple licenses and site licenses.

Trotti will maintain a library of software packages and related licensing agreements. The library will be a repository for all UTSA software to keep it safe from damage and loss, while the software still will belong to departments that purchase it.

A new UTSA Software Web site has listings of software and hardware available at UTSA and links to policies related to computers and networks.

"This is by no means an all-inclusive list, and it will be updated often," said Trotti. "This site lists software, hardware and mobile devices supported by OIT, as well as purchasing guidelines."
