F-1 and J-1 visa holders are required by law to file IRS form 8843 (Statement for Exempt Individuals), whether they have earned money in the United States or not. Sample forms will be distributed in the workshop, which will include instruction on how to complete the forms.
The deadline for tax returns is April 15. F-1 and J-1 visa holders with no income during 2006 must file form 8843 by June 15. Failure to file these forms each year can cause immigration problems.
Tax forms are available in the Office of Payroll at University Heights and the Office of International Programs in Main Building Room 1.210.
