(April 19, 2007)--As part of the Week of the Young Child, UTSA, San Antonio College and local early childhood education advocates hosted an April 17 viewing of the traveling art exhibit, "Picture the Future," at the UTSA Downtown Campus.
UTSA President Ricardo Romo, Dr. Harriett Romo and San Antonio College President Robert Zeigler and San Antonio preschoolers introduced the traveling exhibit at a 10 a.m. ceremony in the Buena Vista Street Building.

The exhibit features 90 drawings done with crayon and markers by three- and four-year-old pre-schoolers from the UTSA Child Development center, the SAC Early Childhood Center and Parent-Child Inc. affiliates in San Antonio.
The exhibit can be seen April 19-26 at the SAC Early Childhood Center, April 26 at the Palo Alto College PACfest and April 30-May 4 at the Palo Alto College Early Childhood Center.
The Week of the Young Child, observed April 22-29 this year, is a national recognition of the importance of a early childhood education. From birth to age eight, children form the foundation for success in school and later life.
Research shows that children who participate in quality early childhood programs are less likely to drop out of high school, more likely to attend college and more likely to earn higher incomes.
The Week of the Young Child is sponsored locally by the San Antonio Association for the Education of Young Children. The advocacy group Voices for the Children of San Antonio organized the exhibit in collaboration with UTSA and SAC. The exhibit's objective is to enlist community support to help children fulfill their dreams by asking, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" The children then are given the opportunity to express their answers in artwork.
