Volunteers are needed for Texas Folklife Festival

(May 24, 2007)--UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures is preparing to celebrate its 36th annual Texas Folklife Festival. ITC is offering to UTSA students, faculty and staff an opportunity for volunteer service and free admission to the June 8-10 celebration of diverse Texas cultures.

It takes more than 1,300 volunteers to make Folklife a success. By working a minimum 4-hour shift, a volunteer earns a wristband good for admission to all three days of the festival.

Volunteers are needed for various areas, including the booths staffed by the UTSA Alumni Association, which will host the Beers Around the World and the Taste Texas Wines booths. Download the Folklife volunteer application and e-mail to Denise Villarreal or call the Volunteer Hotline at (210) 458-2216. Volunteers also must contact Villarreal to arrange an orientation session before the festival. The application deadline is Wednesday, May 30.

Participants are encouraged to use the VIA Park and Ride service to get to the festival. The three-day cultural extravaganza runs 5-11 p.m., Friday, June 8; 10 a.m.-11 p.m., Saturday, June 9 and noon-7 p.m., Sunday, June 10.
