Janice Odom, director of development for foundation and organization relations, was appointed by UTSA President Ricardo Romo to serve as interim vice president while the university conducts a national search to fill the vacancy.
"While I am sorry to see Sonia step down, I know we are in excellent hands with Janice serving in the role while we search for a vice president," said Romo. "Janice has more than 30 years of higher-education advancement experience, working for four universities in roles that span all aspects of advancement -- fundraising, communications and alumni relations. She will do a great job for us."
Odom joined UTSA in 2002 as associate director of development. Her previous higher-education appointments include director of stewardship and annual giving as well as director of university relations at UT Pan American, executive director of university relations at New Mexico Highland University, director of news and information services at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, and director of public information and publications at North Texas State University.
Martinez joined UTSA in March 2002. After a two-month summer break, she will return to UTSA part-time to work with Romo on strategic initiatives.
