Proposals needed for student leadership summit

(July 24, 2007)--Presentation proposals are needed from students for the UTSA Student Leader Summit set for 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept 15 at the University Center on the 1604 Campus.

UTSA students who have a great topic they would like to present to student leaders can submit proposals through Friday, Aug. 24. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to presenters, who are responsible for providing copies of handouts to participants and providing their own computer or laptop if needed for their sessions.

Using a LEGO theme, the conference will explore the endless possibilities of leadership. Last year, more than 100 students participated in the all-day event where student leaders learn leadership skills, get invigorated for the new academic year and strengthen the connections between organization leaders and the UTSA Office of Student Activities.

The summit will include information sessions in four key areas:

  • Foundations, Blueprints, and Planning: Foundational leadership skills and theory
  • Tools, Teamwork, and Building: Practical, hands-on leadership skills for use in organizational settings
  • Neighbors, Community and Sharing: Broadening awareness of current community and global issues.
  • Maintenance, Additions and Cleaning: Challenging beliefs and ways of thinking through simulations, activities and discussions.

    • How do you choose a topic? Ask yourself:

  • What kind of expertise do I have?
  • What am I most passionate about?
  • What questions do student leaders want me to answer?
