(July 19, 2007)--Four preseason tournaments, a full slate of 16 Southland Conference matches and the return of the SLC Tournament to San Antonio highlight the 2007 UTSA volleyball schedule as announced Tuesday by head coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff.
"Our preseason schedule is set up so we can see some of the other teams in our region and play some tough competition outside the region," Neugebauer-Groff said. "Hopefully, that will help get us ready for a tough conference schedule. Our first five SLC matches are on the road and that will be a challenge for this year's squad."

The Roadrunners then host Texas-Pan American on Tuesday, Aug. 28, in the 2007 home opener. UTSA will bring a 33-match winning streak into that contest.
The Roadrunners head to the Sunshine State to play in the North Florida Labor Day Classic from Aug. 31-Sept. 1. UTSA opens tournament play on Friday, Aug. 31, against Weber State and wraps up play the next day with matches against North Florida and Southeast Missouri State.
The Roadrunners return to the Convocation Center for four matches in three days from Sept. 6-8. After hosting Houston in a non-conference tilt on Thursday, Sept. 6, UTSA welcomes Auburn, Louisiana Tech and Texas A&M to the Alamo City for the two-day UTSA Classic. The Roadrunners open the tournament on Friday, Sept. 7, against Auburn and then host Louisiana Tech and Texas A&M the following day.
UTSA begins an eight-match road swing on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at SMU and a trip to Prairie View, Texas, for three matches at the Lady Panther Invitational follows (opponents TBA).
The Roadrunners continue the road trip when they open the SLC slate with five consecutive matches away from the friendly confines of the Convocation Center. The conference campaign begins on Thursday, Sept. 20, when UTSA travels north to face I-35 rival Texas State in San Marcos. Two days later, the Roadrunners play Texas-Arlington in the Metroplex. Another weekend of road tilts follow when UTSA heads east to face defending champion Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 28) and Sam Houston State (Sept. 29).
Following a non-conference home match against Prairie View A&M on Friday, Oct. 5, the Roadrunners conclude the conference-opening road trip the next afternoon at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. UTSA finally plays a league match at home on Thursday, Oct. 11, against Texas State. Texas-Arlington comes to San Antonio two days later.
The Roadrunners hit the road again when they play at Northwestern State on Friday, Oct. 19 and Central Arkansas on Sunday, Oct. 21.
UTSA begins a five-match home stand on Wednesday, Oct. 24, when Texas A&M-Corpus Christi comes to town. Consecutive weekend contests against Southeastern Louisiana (Oct. 26), Nicholls State (Oct. 27), Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 1) and Sam Houston State (Nov. 3) follow.
The Roadrunners wrap up the regular season with road matches at McNeese State (Nov. 9) and Lamar (Nov. 10).
The final weekend will see the return of the SLC Tournament return to the Convocation Center for the second consecutive year and the fourth time in league history. Eight teams will converge upon the Alamo City for the 26th annual event beginning on Friday, Nov. 16. The three-day tournament runs through Sunday, Nov. 18, and the winner will earn the SLC’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. The top two finishers in the East and West Division and the next four teams with the best conference records (regardless of division) will qualify for this year’s event.
