Fall Convocation to offer first look at new Rec Center
(Aug. 15, 2007)--UTSA continues a tradition initiated in 2002 -- the annual Fall Convocation for faculty, students and staff -- to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year. With the theme, "The Journey Begins," the special event is from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 20 in the Campus Recreation Center gym on the 1604 Campus. The speaker will be Sen. Judith Zaffirini.

As part of Roadrunner Days, a week of special events to welcome new students, faculty and staff also are encouraged to be part of the Fall Convocation. Setting the tone for a successful academic year, the event is an opportunity to acquaint new students with academic traditions, hear an inspiring speaker, celebrate accomplishments, look to the future, and articulate pride in our institution and the UTSA family.
Because of Rec Center construction, the area may look unfamiliar. For easiest access, enter from parking lot 5 (south of the Wellness and Recreation Center and the Convocation Center) and follow the signs.
The relocation of the Fall Convocation to the Rec Center is the first opportunity to spotlight the newly expanded 250,000-square-foot facility with a new swimming pool, spas, weight room, cardio area, two new basketball courts, four racquetball courts, two group exercise studios, locker rooms, a smoothie bar and an indoor soccer court. Usually conducted in the Convocation Center, the event was moved this year because of the in-progress installation of new seating.
