(Sept. 5, 2007)--Honorary chairs for the eighth annual Alumni Rising Star Gala on Sept. 22, Jeff Clarke, '86, and Loretta Clarke, '87, '90, are enthusiastic about the seven items offered in this year's Power Drawing that helps raise money for student scholarships.
Three enticing travel trips are offered -- one week on Grand Bahama Island, a two-night stay in San Francisco, both including airfare, and a stay at a Sonoma County, Calif., guesthouse and tour of Alexander Valley Vineyards. Anyone could win one of these trips with the purchase of a ticket for just $20. Enter the Power Drawing at University Center Room 2.00.10, 1604 Campus.

Other items in the Power Drawing are gas cards worth $2,500 from Valero Energy, a night on the River Walk with dinner by Boudro's on a Rio San Antonio cruise, and a custom landscape design and installation package for your home.
"My favorite item is a little Rowdy bling -- an 18K Roadrunner pendant with blue and orange sapphires, donated by Jeff and Loretta," says Susan Filyk, '95, gala chair. The drawing will be at the Sept. 22 gala, but none of the seven winners need be present to win.
UTSA Alumni Association President Yvonne Fernandez, '85, says ticket sales are moving swiftly with only three weeks until the event. Tickets can be purchased for $20 or three for $50 at the Office of Alumni Programs Office in the University Center breezeway next to Career Services. Read details on all Power Drawing items and purchase tickets at the Alumni Rising Star Gala Web site.
The UTSA Alumni Rising Star Gala is a shining and memorable night as UTSA alumni and friends honor the achievements of outstanding alumni and the accomplishments of its student scholars for the school year. A silent auction, dinner and program with dancing to Austin's Newsboyz promises a full evening. The cocktail and music reception begins at 6:15 p.m. at the Westin La Cantera Resort.
Table sponsorships are available for companies, families, alumni and friends at the Rising Star level for $3,500, Shooting Star level for $2,500 and Lone Star level for $1,500. Sponsor tables seat eight. Rising Star and Shooting Star sponsors will have one student scholarship named for them for the 2008-2009 school year. Individual tickets are $125. A portion of gala proceeds benefits the UTSA Alumni Association Scholarship Fund; last year the gala raised more than $58,000.
