(Oct. 5, 2007)--The honorary chairs for the eighth annual UTSA Alumni Rising Star Gala, Loretta Clarke, '87, '90, and Jeff Clarke, '86, were pleased at the levels of involvement in the Sept. 22 event at the Westin La Cantera Resort.

"We had support from more sponsors and volunteers than in any previous year," said Loretta Clarke. And, according to gala chair Susan Filyk, '95, when the tally is complete, it is expected that more will be raised this year for student scholarships than at any other alumni gala.

Seven happy Power Drawing winners were announced that night and guests took home a record number of silent auction items.

Power Drawing prizes included trips to the Grand Bahamas, San Francisco and California wine country; jewelry; landscaping; dinner on the River Walk and a Valero gas card for $2,500. Visit the UTSA Alumni Programs Web site for the list of winners.

At the gala, James Mickey, '78, former president of Movida Communications Inc., received the Alumnus of the Year Award and Robert McKinley, '98, UTSA associate vice president for economic development, received the Distinguished Service Award.
