SECC donation = admission to 'UTSA's Got Talent'

(Oct. 16, 2007)--Each UTSA employee who donates to the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) receives a ticket to "UTSA's Got Talent" -- a talent show starring UTSA administrators and staff members -- from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 19 in the Business Building Richard Liu Auditorium (1.01.02) on the 1604 Campus. It will be a morning of serious talent mixed with fun and door prizes, emceed by bandleader Rick Cavender.

If you already turned in your SECC donation form, your ticket will come by campus mail. If you haven't turned in your form, bring it to the show for admittance.

The performance will be simulcast in the Institute of Texan Cultures Connally Room and Frio Street Building Room 2.520 at the Downtown Campus. If the Liu Auditorium fills, a simulcast also will be in Business Building Room 3.04.18, 1604 Campus.

"We want everyone to come over and see our staff's many, and in some cases, deeply hidden talents. It"s all in fun and for a good cause," said Albert Carrisalez, SECC chair and assistant to the president and director of external affairs.

Members of the SECC Presidential Advisory Committee came up with the idea for the performance as a way to say "thank you" to all who made a donation through this year's statewide campaign.

So, what can audience members expect? Here are some of the fabulous acts:

• Singing by President Ricardo Romo accompanied by the UTSA Mariachis Los Paisanos
• Tunes by pianist Jesse Zapata, who moonlights as vice provost for the Downtown Campus
• A Johnny Cash-inspired parody, "I Stand in Line," from the Office of Financial Aid
• "Walkln' After Midnight," the Patsy Cline standard performed by Kelsey Bratcher, Office of Career Services
• Good -- and bad -- jokes!
• A very special Top Ten list of excuses from David Kapalko, Office of Parking and Transportation Services. (Come see if your excuse made it to the top!)
• A magic show from the Office of Orientation and Transitional Services
• The University Advancement chorus line performing "Hey, Big Giver"
• A drum solo by Kerry Kennedy, vice president for business affairs
