UTSA business college opens career center

(Nov. 9, 2007)--The UTSA College of Business dedicated the Center for Student Professional Development (CSPD) on Thursday, Oct. 25. More than 75 students, business, community and government representatives attended the event.

Offering comprehensive and customized services for students and employers, CSPD provides a range of academic and career-preparation programs and services to give business students a competitive edge in attaining internships and employment opportunities.

"The goal of the center is to transform business students into business professionals," said Lynda de la Viña, dean of the UTSA College of Business. "By combining theory with practice, students can develop a balanced portfolio of academic, career readiness and leadership skills to place them on the path to success in their professional careers."

The center was made possible with the generous support of local community leaders and businesses. Renowned real estate investor Kyle Seale and his wife, Billie Seale, donated $100,000 to establish the H. Kyle Seale Student Professional Development Endowment in the College of Business.

Additionally, corporate sponsors established multi-year commitments to fund the center's start-up operation, including AllianceBernstein, Deacon Recruiting, JPMorgan Chase, Koontz McCombs, Rackspace Managed Hosting, Security Service Federal Credit Union, Wachovia and Wells Fargo Bank.

The center also serves as a resource conduit for the business community. Partnering with local, regional and national employers, the center offers specialized services to help employers recruit internship and job placement candidates. Supporting employers through the entire recruitment process, the center hosts companies for on-campus interviews, networking receptions, industry panels, and expos and career fairs.

The UTSA College of Business is one of the 40 largest business schools in the nation with more than 5,000 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students. Offering comprehensive academic programming at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels, the college is ranked second in the nation for the number of undergraduate business degrees awarded to Hispanics and was named one of the top 10 M.B.A. programs for minorities by Princeton Review.
