UTSA co-hosts reading by New York poet

(Nov. 8, 2007)--The UTSA Department of English, Classics and Philosophy and Gemini Ink will co-sponsor a reading by poet Kimiko Hahn at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9 at Gemini Ink, 513 S. Presa St. As part of the Second Friday Reading Series, the event is free and open to the public.

Additionally, Hahn will teach a class, The Experience of Poetry, from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10 at Gemini Ink. The fee for the class is $55 for members, $65 for non-members. The class is an exercise in reading and writing poetry, examining the reasons poets write and how poetry affects readers.

Hahn is the author of seven books of poems, including "The Narrow Road to the Interior," for which she received The Shelley Memorial Award; "The Unbearable Heart," winner of an American Book Award; and "Earshot," awarded the Theodore Roethke Memorial Poetry Prize and an Association of Asian American Studies Literature Award.

Recipient of the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Writers Award and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts, Hahn is a distinguished professor of English at Queens College, City University of New York.

As San Antonio's only independent literary center, Gemini Ink celebrates art in literature by offering university-level and master-level classes, reader's theater and Writers in Communities presentations that bring literature and literacy to disadvantaged groups.
