OIT offers data encryption software, installation

(Nov. 15, 2007)--The UTSA Office of Information Technology (OIT) announces SafeBoot data encryption software is available for purchase.

RSS FeedsAccording to UTS165, the Information Resources Use and Security Policy, all university-owned laptops that contain sensitive data must be encrypted. The SafeBoot software application encrypts devices that run Microsoft Windows, and it fulfills the policy requirement.
Laptops can be encrypted using SafeBoot or other software. Macintosh laptops have an encryption feature built into their operating system.
The SafeBoot application is $20 per license. Although users can install SafeBoot on their own, OIT recommends that laptops be brought to the OIT Help Desk for software installation.
