Energy workshop to offer new teaching tools

(Feb. 13, 2008)--The UTSA Energy Conservation Committee and the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching will host a workshop on energy education for teachers from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16 in the Main Building IDS Science Lab (1.304) on the 1604 Campus.

RSS FeedsDirected by the University of Texas at El Paso Energy Center's Watt Watchers program, the workshop will provide new energy teaching tools. Teachers will learn how to start a Watt Watchers of Texas program, explore energy with Traveling Energy Exploration Stations and put their minds to work with the "Knowledge is Power" curriculum supplement.
"Knowledge is Power" is an energy efficiency curriculum supplement for grades K-12. It contains lesson plans on energy conservation and energy efficiency that correlate with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) program and includes starter activities, extensions and discussion questions.
The curriculum covers a broad range of subjects including math, science, social studies and language arts. Teachers can educate their students with surveys on school lighting and appliances as well as cost-effective buying strategies.
Participating teachers will receive a copy of the "Knowledge is Power" curriculum supplement, a Watt Watchers of Texas kit and other free items. Watt Watchers of Texas is sponsored by the Texas Energy Office and the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
