UTSA hosts Health Professions Day, Feb. 21

(Feb. 18, 2008)--The UTSA Health Professions Office will host the 18th annual Health Professions Day information fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21 in the University Center on the 1604 Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Co-sponsored by UTSA Career Services and student pre-professional health organizations, the event is an opportunity to explore health professions programs through seminars and one-on-one conversations with representatives of health professions programs from Texas, across the nation and around the world. The focus of the UTSA Health Professions Office is to provide information and guidance on academic, professional and personal goals.

The fair will feature panel discussions on health and medicine, applying to medical and dental school, applying to allied health profession programs, exploring nursing pathways and life as a health professions student.

Other regional universities offering information fairs are University of Texas at Austin (Feb. 18), Texas A&M University (Feb. 19) and University of Houston (Feb. 20).

Event parking for non-UTSA students is free in lot 13 on Valero Way or for a small fee in short-term paid spaces in lots 5, 7 and 8.

A panel of medical and dental school representatives will discuss their application processes.

12:15 p.m.
Medical Research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Career Services Conference Room (2.02.04)
Representatives from NIH, the primary federal agency responsible for investigating ways to prevent disease, will discuss careers in medical research and how to prepare for them.

12:15 p.m.
Applying to an Allied Health Professions Program
Retama Auditorium (2.02.02)
A panel of allied health sciences school representatives will discuss their application processes.

1:30 p.m.
Exploring Nursing Pathways: LVN, BSN, MSN, Ph.D.
Retama Auditorium (2.02.02)
Representatives from area nursing programs will discuss the different career paths in nursing.

Life as a Health Professions Student
