(Feb. 20, 2008)--United Way Campaign 2007 Chairman Bruce Smith recently expressed thanks to UTSA President Ricardo Romo for UTSA's record participation in the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC). Many SECC donations benefit United Way agencies.

"UTSA is honored to be a part of the State Employee Charitable Campaign which, through United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, allows us to help our friends and neighbors in need," said Romo. "Seventy percent of UTSA employees helped raise $224,000 for our 2007 campaign. We are happy to partner with and support Bruce Smith, who sends the following message to the UTSA community."

Dear Donor Friends:

During the 2007 United Way campaign, over 160,000 employees along with their companies and organizations contributed more than $42 million to United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. I want to thank you for making it the largest recorded increase in United Way's history.

This year's milestone campaign would not have been possible without your generosity. In a growing community, your gift will support families in crisis and strengthen neighborhoods. Local contributions also will help feed seniors, provide shelter to battered women and children, and support the homeless. No other gift can touch so many people who need help like your one gift to United Way.

Beginning February 26, United Way is recognizing all companies and organizations that participated in this record-breaking campaign. Please visit the United Way Web site to view a salute to our caring community.

On behalf of the people you've helped but never met, thank you for believing in United Way and for doing what matters.
