By Tim Brownlee
Assistant Director of Public Affairs

(Feb. 26, 2008)--The UTSA community is invited to celebrate the grand opening of the only university-based, full-scale Starbucks Café in South Texas from 9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 28 at the University Center south patio on the 1604 Campus.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to sample free coffee and pastries as a jazz band plays. Attendees can win door prizes including an Xbox 360, Spurs tickets and t-shirt, iTunes gift cards and enjoy other giveaways.

At 9 a.m., UTSA President Ricardo Romo will host a ribbon cutting and offer remarks, along with Fred Heaviside, Chartwells Dining Services regional vice president, and UTSA Student Government President Tommy Thompson.

"Our goal is to offer the campus a more upscale and cozy atmosphere for enjoying coffee, conversation and community," said Wilcox.

Decorated in true Starbucks style on the site of a former game room, the new café features cappuccino and espresso among a range of hot and cold coffee drinks, along with specialty coffee beans, pastries and merchandise. The adjoining outdoor patio has tables and chairs covered by green, Starbucks-labeled umbrellas.

UTSA's Starbucks hours are 7 a.m.-midnight, Monday-Thursday, and 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday. The café is closed weekends.
