(Feb. 19, 2008)--UTSA faculty, staff and students can receive free tax preparation through the UTSA Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). The program is open to those who earn less than $45,000 annually.

  • Tax preparation will be provided 4-8 p.m., Tuesday-Friday, throughout February in the University Center Pecan Room (2.01.26) on the 1604 Campus.

Pam Smith, associate professor of accounting, is the faculty coordinator of the UTSA site. Accounting students who are members of Beta Alpha Psi and Alpha Kappa Psi will provide assistance at the on-site center.

Participants should bring a driver's license or photo identification; Social Security card or individual tax identification number for all members in the family; all W-2s; all 1099 forms and a copy of last year's tax return. If filing jointly, both spouses must be present. Returns are submitted electronically by VITA and filers can expect to receive funds in seven to 10 days.

Through the VITA program, volunteers provide free income tax assistance and tax information to taxpayers. The VITA program is managed by the City of San Antonio Community Initiatives Office.

For more information, visit the VITA Web site or call (210) 227-4357.
