UTSA employees can take time off to vote

By David Diaz
Associate Director of Employee Relations, Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution

(Feb. 18, 2008)--The 2008 Primary Election is just around the corner and UTSA employees should take advantage of early, extended-hour voting opportunities to avoid long lines on Election Day, Tuesday, March 4. Early voting runs Tuesday, Feb. 19 through Friday, Feb. 29.

When it is not possible for an employee to vote before or after normal working hours, supervisors may grant employees a reasonable period of time off for voting during business hours. Employees should be currently registered voters in order to qualify for the time off.

Time off for voting should be requested in advance and approved by the supervisor. Employees granted time off should record this time as "O -- Other" on their time sheets. No reduction in vacation allowance or salary will be made for the time taken to vote as long as supervisory approval is obtained.

Leave administrators with questions about how to document this time in the Define information system should contact Rose Cabello at (210) 458-6647.

For information on early voting, locations, hours and voting districts, visit the Bexar County Elections Department Web site.
