UTSA professor is keynote speaker at Fulbright event

(March 6, 2008)--Richard Gambitta, UTSA associate professor of political science and geography and director of the Institute for Law and Public Affairs, will serve as keynote speaker to more than 140 international Fulbright scholars for the annual Fulbright Enrichment Seminar. In San Antonio from Thursday, March 6 through Friday, March 7, the seminar will include visits by the Fulbrighters to seven San Antonio area high schools.

Gambitta, who was the first American Fulbright scholar to serve as a faculty member at Chinese University in Hong Kong, will speak on "Engaging the Electorate: The Dynamics of Politics and Participation in 2008" on Thursday at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel.

The high school visits are part of a three-day seminar sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and presented by the Institute of International Education (IIE). In San Antonio, the Fulbright scholars will visit John Marshall, Earl Warren, Northside Health Careers, Business Careers, Highlands, Brackenridge and Fox Tech high schools. The school visits by the seminar participants are to gain insight into life in the United States and share diverse facets of their own countries and cultures with the students and local residents they meet.
