(April 17, 2008)--The UTSA Campus Activities Board hosts the annual official Fiesta San Antonio event, Fiesta UTSA, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, April 18 at Sombrilla Plaza on the 1604 Campus. On opening day of Fiesta, Fiesta UTSA is more than a celebration for UTSA students -- the event is free and open to the public.

Fiesta royalty, including King Antonio and El Rey Feo (The Ugly King), will arrive at 1:15 p.m. Accompanying the royal court this year will be UTSA representatives including Miss San Antonio 2008, Priscilla Garcia, a junior communication major, and Fiesta poster designer, UTSA alumna Cecelia Paz Mujica.
Student organizations will sponsor food booths at Sombrilla Plaza, serving sausage wraps, egg rolls, jamba juice, gourmet ice cream and Fiesta fare. There will be an inflatable obstacle course and a Velcro wall, along with student performances by the Filipino Students Association, Swordplay fencing club and other UTSA organizations. Proceeds from food and activity booths benefit UTSA student organizations.
This year's celebration features music by The Drew Davis Band, who will tour with Hootie and the Blowfish this summer. The band's guitar and banjo player, Loren Ellis, recorded the theme song for the Disney Channel's "The Suite Life of Zach and Cody."
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to enjoy lunch at Sombrilla Plaza. A shuttle is available for those who park in lot 13 on the UTSA Campus, off Valero Way. Limited parking will be in the garage at the corner of Margaret Tobin Avenue and Fred Cook Drive.
