Society of Women Engineers leader speaks April 17

(April 16, 2008)--The UTSA College of Engineering will present Betty Shanahan, executive director and CEO of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), who will speak on "Broadening the Appeal of Engineering" at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 17 in Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building Room 2.110 on the 1604 Campus.

In September 2002, Shanahan became the first engineer to hold the position of SWE executive director.
Founded in 1950 and headquartered in Chicago, SWE is an educational and service organization with 15,000 professionals and students. Members participate in programs and services through more than 100 local sections and 300 student sections.
SWE's mission is to help women achieve their full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, to expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and to demonstrate the value of diversity.
