By Tim Brownlee
Assistant Director of Public Affairs

(Sept. 4, 2008)--The new UTSA mass notification system at the 1604 Campus will be tested between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m., Friday, Sept. 5 and between noon and 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6.

The Friday testing will be inside 10 buildings and will include tones and voice messages through the fire alarm system.

The inside testing will be in these buildings:

  • Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building
  • Business Building
  • Convocation Center
  • John Peace Library Building
  • Main Building
  • Margaret Batts Tobin Laboratory Building
  • Multidisciplinary Studies Building
  • Recreation and Wellness Center
  • Roadrunner Cafe
  • University Center

The Saturday testing will involve four outdoor speakers that comprise the Giant Voice emergency notification system. Outdoor tests will include beeps and voice messages. The speaker arrays will be tested individually and in groups.

The Giant Voice system can deliver voice announcements audible on campus and possibly off campus. In order to avoid confusion or concern during testing, UTSA is notifying campus neighbors, businesses, media outlets, San Antonio Office of Emergency Management and other officials.
