UTSA debaters are ranked 11th in nation

(Oct. 30, 2008)--The UTSA Roadrunner debaters are currently ranked 11th among more than 200 colleges and universities nationwide. Among four representing UTSA, two teams have advanced to elimination rounds in all five of their tournaments this year. They have not placed below fourth and individual debaters have won many speaker awards.

Assistant Debate Coach Philip DiPiazza, a former UTSA debater who was highly successful nationally, won the Top Assistant Coach Award at a Kansas tournament, as well as placing in the top three critics (debaters' votes).

The University of Kansas, University of Southern California and Northwestern University are among the top 10 schools ahead of UTSA in the rankings. Emory University, University of Oklahoma, U.S. Military Academy, Baylor University, Wake Forest University, Cornell University and the University of Texas at Austin trail UTSA.

The next tournament for the Roadrunner debaters will be at Harvard University the first week in November. After Boston, UTSA debaters will travel to the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond and Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.
