Satellite Space presents 'Deadly Habits' exhibit

(Nov. 4, 2008)--The UTSA Satellite Space and the Department of Art and Art History will present the exhibit "Deadly Habits" featuring new work of Ian O'Brien including digital prints, installations, performance and viewer participation. Free and open to the public, the exhibit runs Nov. 6-23 at the Satellite Space, Blue Star Arts Complex Suite 115.

An opening reception is 6-9 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 6; the gallery also will be open 6-9 p.m., Nov. 7 for First Friday, the monthly gallery open house in the Southtown district.
O'Brien's work focuses on a fictional town, Grip River, in which he is the sole bureaucrat and figurehead. His narcissistic world is bogged down with an endless array of tasks, red tape and paperwork, making his work futile in nature. O'Brien records the futility of his work through installations, performance and viewer participation.
The exhibit centers on Grip River's upcoming mayoral election as the incumbent faces off with a reform candidate. Both candidates verbally wrestle for votes at a debate. The process will involve voter registration for the Grip River election.
