UTSA Employee Learning Week is Dec. 8-12

(Dec. 8, 2008)--UTSA President Ricardo Romo has proclaimed Dec. 8-12 as UTSA Employee Learning Week. The Department of Human Resources Training and Development coordinates UTSA's participation in National Employee Learning Week with a two-fold focus recognizing the value of lifelong learning and highlighting the important connection between a highly skilled work force and organizational success.

The national week, celebrating its fifth year, was created by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), the world's largest association dedicated to workplace learning and performance professionals. UTSA's training and development department actively participates in ASTD events and has been recognized nationally by the organization as a "Champion of Workplace Learning."

"UTSA is committed to creating a highly skilled work force that is critical to growing and sustaining a competitive advantage," said Romo at the announcement ceremony. "We recognize that continuing learning is essential to developing individual and institutional knowledge and expertise. We salute our professionals in the training and development department who continue to demonstrate their commitment to developing the skills of employees in all parts of the university."

UTSA employees can participate in National Employee Learning Week through several activities. Those who participate can win prizes including an Employee Learning Week bracelet (pictured above).

  • Participate in the online Scavenger Hunt -- search the UTSA Web site to find answers to questions and win a prize.
  • Print and post President Ricardo Romo's UTSA Proclamation for Employee Learning Week.
  • Register for one of the 23 classroom training sessions offered during Learning Week, Dec. 8-12 at TXClass.
  • Set a goal to learn something new this week or for a New Year's resolution. There is always something new to learn, new ways to improve and opportunities to pass it on to others.

Studies have shown a direct correlation between continuous employee development and an organization's ability to achieve its goals. UTSA offers many classes in technical and job skills as well as people skills, which contribute to UTSA's pursuit of becoming a premier research institution.
