UTSA hosts Jan. 29 intellectual property talk

(Jan. 28, 2009)--John Calvert, administrator of the Inventors Assistance Program at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), will discuss intellectual property, patents, trademarks and copyrights during a presentation at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 29 in the University Center Mesquite Room (2.01.24) on the UTSA 1604 Campus. Free and open to the public, the presentation is sponsored by the Center for Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship (CITE).

Calvert will provide illustrations of various types of intellectual property protection through real-life examples and will discuss the effect of the Bayh-Dole Act on sponsored research and university intellectual property. The USPTO has made outreach and education a high priority because of the increased interest in intellectual property at business and educational institutions.

CITE is an interdisciplinary center in the UTSA College of Business and the College of Engineering. The center focuses on fostering the growth of entrepreneurs and new technology-based ventures through a process of education, experiences, resources and support.
