CineFestival free screening is Jan. 29 at UTSA

(Jan. 28, 2009)--As part of the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center 31st annual CineFestival en San Antonio, UTSA will sponsor a free screening of the award-winning environmental documentary "Aqui Estamos y No Nos Vamos (We're Here and We're Not Leaving)" at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29 in the Frio Street Building Sam Riklin Auditorium (1.406) on the UTSA Downtown Campus.

The film is a penetrating examination of community-supported agriculture in an urban setting. Filmmaker Claudia Mercado filmed over the course of several years to document the rise and fall of the South Central Farm, a community garden located south of downtown Los Angeles. Politicians, developers and police clashed with grassroots activists in a gripping struggle for the basic right to grow one's own food. The film will appeal to those interested in environmental activism, grassroots organizing and the green movement.

CineFestival en San Antonio runs Feb. 5-8, featuring films from around the world dealing with issues such as immigration, civil rights, urban development, Native American history and Tejano music. Tickets to other CineFestival screenings are $8; $6 for students, seniors and military. An All-Movie Pass (which includes admission to all films, VIP seating and entry to the receptions) is $30. Group discounts are available.
