(Jan. 8, 2009)--UTSA community members are invited to participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. March and Commemoration on Monday, Jan. 19, hosted by the City of San Antonio. UTSA participation is coordinated by the Inclusion and Community Engagement Center.

A bus will provide free transportation to and from the march site. The bus will depart at 8:30 a.m. on march day from the Convocation Center at the 1604 Campus and can accommodate up to 50 people.

This marks the 23rd anniversary of the march in honor of civil rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Martin Luther King Jr. More than 100,000 adults and children are expected to participate in the nearly three-mile march through the community's East Side. San Antonio's march is the largest in the United States.

The MLK Commission organizes the march and leads the community effort of more than two dozen events paying tribute to King. A variety of educational, inspirational and celebratory events take place at city library branches, college and university campuses, and military installations.

For more information, visit the City of San Antonio Web site or contact the UTSA Inclusion and Community Engagement Center at (210) 458-4770.
