(Feb. 4, 2009)--The winners of the 2009 Homecoming 2009 Art Contest are students Jesse Buchoz (first place), Matt De Leon (second place) and Shannon Kenworthy (third place. The prizes were announced Jan. 20 in the University Center galleria on the UTSA 1604 Campus.

Buchoz claimed first place with her submission, "Get Rowdy." De Leon was awarded second place for "UTSA Homecoming 2009." Third place was awarded to Kenworth for her submission "Pride - Spirit - Tradition."

Each artist was given a trophy and a cash prize. First place was awarded $250, second place $50 and third place $25. The first-place poster will be auctioned in August at the UTSA Alumni Gala in support of student scholarships. The second- and third-place winners will be displayed at the University Center.

Jesse Buchoz is a freshman multidisciplinary sciences major who enjoys drawing, photography and design. She plans to get involved in a UTSA student organization this semester after acclimating to the university in her first semester last fall. Her goal is to become a teacher.

Matt De Leon is a junior international business major from Houston and is involved in the Student Government Association, VOICES and the Latino Business Student Association. His favorite sports teams are the Houston Texans and the UTSA Roadrunners.

Shannon Kenworthy is a freshman art major born and raised in San Antonio. She plans to become an art teacher because she was inspired by her art teacher Cliff Tinker at Madison High School, and now wants to inspire others.
