UTSA hosts Black History Knowledge Bowl

(Feb. 23, 2009)--In celebration of Black History Month, UTSA will host Black History Knowledge Bowl 2009 at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24 in the University Center Denman Room (2.01.28) on the UTSA 1604 Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

UTSA student contestants will be challenged on their knowledge of heroic accomplishments in African-American history. Winning teams will receive $900 for first place, $600 for second place and $300 for third place.

Subjects included in the competition will be culture, education, politics and political leaders, medicine and health, sports, general knowledge, military, music, movies, television, literature, arts and theater, among others.

Sponsored by the UTSA Provost's Core Values Initiative, the event is intended to foster UTSA's core values of integrity, excellence, inclusiveness, respect, collaboration and innovation.

Co-sponsors are the UTSA Black Faculty and Staff Association, The Brackenridge Fund, the UTSA College of Education and Human Development, the UTSA Inclusion and Community Engagement Center, African-American Studies, the UTSA Department of History and the University Center.
