Alumna Spotlight: Marisol Peralez '07 named Distinguished First-Year Teacher by Judson ISD

(Feb. 27, 2009)--UTSA alumna Marisol Peralez '07 recently was named Distinguished First-Year Teacher by Judson Independent School District.

"I want to thank the College of Education at The University of Texas at San Antonio for leading the way into the most challenging and rewarding career field," said Peralez. "A special thanks to my mentor Kristie Metting and the Academy for Teacher Excellence for all the support and guidance throughout my first year of teaching. The special education professors at UTSA truly prepared me for this position and I thank each and every one of them from the bottom of my heart."

Peralez graduated from UTSA in December 2007 with an EC-4 Generalist and EC-12 Special Education Certification. She is a fourth- and fifth-grade resource teacher at Spring Meadows Elementary School. Additionally, she is involved with numerous school and community committees.

"Marisol is the perfect example of the commitment and dedication necessary to succeed in today's public schools in meeting San Antonio's culturally and linguistically diverse student population," said Nidia Tijerina, recruitment coordinator for the UTSA Academy for Teacher Excellence.
