(Feb. 18, 2009)--Building upon relationships fostered by the College of Business at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), UTSA and The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing, China have executed an agreement of cooperation to establish a program of exchange and collaboration in academic areas beneficial to both institutions.

The agreement, signed Feb. 4 in San Antonio by UTSA President Ricardo Romo and Madame Wang Ling, chair of the UIBE University Council, calls for both institutions to promote interest in the teaching activities of the respective institutions and to deepen the understanding of the economic, cultural and social issues environment of the respective institutions. To achieve these goals, UIBE and UTSA will work to establish a Confucius Institute at UTSA.

Founded in 1951 as the Beijing Institute of Foreign Trade, UIBE enrolls more than 11,000 students and specializes in economics, finance and business. One of the first Chinese universities to establish global programs of cooperation, UIBE maintains more than 100 exchange programs in Asia, North America, Europe and Australia.
