UTSA aria competition concert is March 5

(March 3, 2009)--The UTSA Department of Music will host the 15th annual UTSA Orchestra Concerto and Aria Competition Winners Concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 5 in the Arts Building Recital Hall on the 1604 Campus.

The five aria competition winners were selected from a group of 35 of UTSA's top musical performers that competed for the opportunity to showcase their talent at the annual event. The concert will open with the 60-member UTSA Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky's grand overture "Marche Slave."

This year's winners are Jourdan Burger, Victoria Folks, Ryan Hughes-Mazurkiewicz, Michelle Lange and Liza Zuniga.

Burger, a graduate student in music and soprano will perform Vincenzo Bellini's aria from "The Montagues and Capulets," "Oh quante volte, oh quante!"

Hughes-Mazurkiewicz, an undergraduate major in clarinet, will perform Mozart's "Concerto for Clarinet in A."

Lange, an undergraduate major in voice (soprano), will perform Francesco Cilea's "Io son l'umile ancella" from his opera "Adriana Lecouvreur."

Zuniga, an undergraduate major and mezzo soprano, will perform Saint-Saens' "Mon Coeur S'ouvre a ta voix" from his opera "Samson and Dalila."

Folks, an undergraduate piano major, will perform the "Concerto in F for Piano and Orchestra" by George Gershwin.
