UTSA wins eight awards at CASE competition

(April 7, 2009)--At the 2009 CASE District IV Conference, April 4-8, in Oklahoma City, UTSA's team from the Office of the Vice President for University Advancement won eight awards including three grand awards, four awards of excellence and one special award.

CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) is an international association of professionals who advance educational institutions. CASE District IV includes Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Mexico.

The UTSA Office of Alumni Programs scored with two grand awards, one honoring the UTSA Ring Ceremony (Best Student Program) and one honoring the UTSA Alumni on Campus event (Best Low-Cost Alumni Program). Additionally, the UTSA Office of University Publications won a grand award for photography (Black and White Series), "The Music Makers."

Awards of excellence went to University Publications for Sombrilla magazine (Magazine Design -- Complete Unit) and UTSA Discovery magazine (Medical/Scientific Writing). Alumni Programs earned two awards of excellence, one for UTSA Young Alumni (Best New Alumni Program) and one for UTSA's Diploma Dash (Best Alumni Program or Special Event).Alumni Programs also won a special award honoring Alumni and Friends -- Author Speak!

"If UTSA did not earn the most awards this year, it was certainly among the few institutions at the top of the list," said David Gabler, UTSA associate vice president for communications and marketing. "The only other award to go to an institution in San Antonio was one award for Trinity University's annual report."

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., with offices in London and Singapore, CASE is a professional organization for advancement professionals at all levels who work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing and other areas. The organization has 22,500 members from more than 3,400 colleges, universities, independent elementary and secondary schools, and educational associates in 61 countries. CASE is one of the largest nonprofit education associations in terms of institutional membership, serving more than 60,000 advancement professionals on the staffs of its member institutions.
