USAA CEO Joe Robles speaks April 16 at UTSA

(April 14, 2009)--Josue Robles Jr., USAA president and chief executive officer, will present the keynote address as part of the UTSA College of Business Frost Distinguished Lecture Series at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 16 in the Business Building Richard S. Liu Auditorium (2.01.02) on the UTSA Main Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Robles joined USAA, one of America's leading financial services companies, in July 1994 as special assistant to the chairman after retiring from the U.S. Army as a major general. He was named chief financial officer and controller in September 1994, and he added corporate treasurer to his responsibilities in 1995. He assumed the position of president and chief executive officer in December 2007.

Robles oversees a corporate organization that includes USAA's Property and Casualty Insurance Group, Federal Savings Bank, Life Insurance Company, Investment Management Company, Alliance Services Company and Financial Planning Services.

Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Robles spent 28 years in the U.S. Army and served in a variety of command and staff positions including active duty posts in Korea, Vietnam, Germany and Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm in the Middle East.

Robles serves on the boards of directors of DTE Energy, Christus Santa Rosa Hospital, Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital Foundation and the P16Plus Council of Greater Bexar County Foundation. He has a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from Kent State University and a master's degree in business administration from Indiana State University.

The Frost Distinguished Lecture Series brings prominent business and community leaders to UTSA to share their knowledge and experiences with students and others in the university and business community. The series, which began in 1988, presents a forum for business leaders and academics to share their experiences in business so that students can broaden their understanding of the business world and the individuals who lead it.

Nationally ranked and recognized, the UTSA College of Business is accredited by AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. It is one of the 40 largest business schools in the nation with 6,000 students and 37 graduate and undergraduate business programs.
