(April 14, 2009)--UTSA Campus Recreation, Student Health Services and the SHADES (Sexual Health, Alcohol and Drug Education for Students) peer education program will host "Guys Night In" from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 15 in the Texas and San Antonio rooms in the Recreation Center on the Main Campus.

The free event for male students, faculty and staff will feature discussion on men's health, a Texas Hold 'Em tournament, gaming tournaments, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a movie, food, music and prize drawings.

The event is to raise awareness about men's health-related issues including HIV/AIDS and other STDs, alcohol and substance abuse, and hepatitis.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), young adults aged 18 to 22 enrolled full-time in college are more likely than their peers not enrolled full-time to have used alcohol in the past month, binge drink and drink heavily.

Additionally, young adults make up the largest number of HIV cases reported in recent years, according to March 2007 statistics. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate, at least 15,000 HIV-positive people between the ages of 13 and 24 live in the United States. Yet, most HIV-positive teens and young adults remain unaware of their infection or that they are at risk for HIV.
