(July 13, 2009)--The UTSA Academy for Teacher Excellence will host the sixth annual Summer Bridging Institute July 13-17 in Frio Street Building Room 4.418 at the UTSA Downtown Campus. The institute's goal is to enhance the skills of graduating students who will become teachers this fall.

Scheduled weeklong workshops will include:

  • Working with Title I Schools
  • The ABCs of Special Education
  • English as a Second Language and English Language Learners
  • LIBRE Model Training
  • Instructional Technology in the Classroom
  • Surviving your First Year and Beyond

The Academy for Teacher Excellence was established as a hub for school districts, community colleges and UTSA to collaboratively research, design, implement and evaluate educational programs that address emerging, statewide and local educational issues associated with a growing diverse student population. A major focus is the implementation of a Title V Hispanic-serving-institutions grant to leverage resources in the community to better prepare teachers in classrooms with diverse student populations.
